Kameoka has many wonderful spots for cherry blossom viewing, but the most famous and beautiful spot is probably the Nanatanigawa River, which is lined with 1,500 breathtaking cherry trees. Other great spots include Kameoka Sports Park (Undō Kōen), the Ohmoto grounds (a short walk from JR Kameoka Station), the Hozu Valley (visible from the JR Sagano Line, Torokko Ressha, and Hozugawakudari River Boat Ride), and Nangō Park (a short walk from JR Kameoka Station).

The garden at Galleria Kameoka is home to 1,300 roses of 36 varieties, all planted by local residents. You can enjoy their sweet fragrance and cheerful colors every spring and fall.

These pretty purple flowers bloom in front of Kokushō-ji Temple (谷性寺), at which Akechi Mitsuhide, who was once lord of Kameoka and builder of Kameyama Castle, is buried. The bellflower was the crest of the Akechi family. The bellflower garden is know as Kikyō no sato(ききょうの里).

The leaves of the prickly water lily can grow up to two meters in length, and are covered with hard, sharp thorns, while the small magenta-colored flower only gets as big as four centimeters. Feared to be in danger of extinction, Kameoka is the only location in Kyoto Prefecture where this flower grows naturally.
These flowers grow naturally in Hiranosawa Ike Pond (平の沢池 hiranosawa ike).

These white lilies, that cover a large portion of the pond at Nangō Park in mid-to late summer, open in the morning and close by midday. By the 3rd day of blooming they begin to wilt and drop their petals by day 4.
These flowers are found at Hiranosawa Ike Pond (平の沢池 hiranosawa ike).

These flowers bloom for only one week, popping up on the edges of rice fields as the rice plants turn a golden yellow. They bloom throughout the town but Anaōji temple (穴太寺) is the best place to see them.

Spanning 4.5 hectares, this garden contains over 8 million cosmos of 20 varieties, making it look like a never-ending field of flowers. When the flowers are in bloom, you can enjoy the many varieties of cosmos in the garden and even buy some flowers to take home with you. Be sure to visit the farmers’ booths, which sell fresh produce and locally produced products from the Tamba-Kameoka region.
