Yu no Hana Onsen is nestled among the mountains about 7 km west of the center of Kameoka. This natural hot spring was originally a remote resort for aristocrats from Kyoto, the capital city of Japan for more than 1200 years. Legend has it that soaking in these hot springs will cure ailments, and during Japan’s turbulent feudal era, many wounded soldiers sought to heal their injuries here. The fresh air and beautiful sights around Yu no Hana Onsen provide visitors with a natural and quiet atmosphere difficult to find in Japan’s bustling cities.
Yu no Hana Onsen is an all-natural spring, and has been said to alleviate symptoms associated with neuralgia, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, chronic digestive and gynecological problems, fatigue, etc.
After relaxing in the hot springs, visitors can enjoy seasonal delicacies, including mountain vegetables in the spring, Japanese sweetfish (ayu) in the summer, matsutake mushrooms in the autumn, and botan nabe (wild boar hot-pot) in the winter. Yu no Hana Onsen is perfect for a family getaway or a group outing.
