River rafting has gained popularity in recent years as not just a leisure sport providing the opportunity to commune with nature, but also as a form of active tourism. Its close proximity to Kyoto City (only 20 minutes away by train) and the swift currents flowing through Hozu Canyon make the Hozu River a perfect location for rafting.
Rafters can enjoy the changing scenery of the four seasons and searching for the abundant wildlife living in the surrounding mountains while floating down the river. Traditional boats carrying passengers on the Hozu River boat ride share the river and visitors on the Torokko Ressha Romantic Train often wave excitedly at the passing rafters. These experiences make rafting on the Hozu River unique and unforgettable.
Rafting services are located near JR Umahori Station (馬堀駅 umahori eki) or Torokko Kameoka Station (トロッコ亀岡駅 torokko kameoka eki). Different companies offer different plans and rafters can choose from half day plans that end at Hozukyo or full day plans that travel all the way to Arashiyama.
