Kongōji 金剛寺

Maruyama Ōkyo, a famous artist in the 18th century, spent his childhood at Kongōji temple and developed a unique drawing style influenced by ancient Chinese techniques as well as European perspective paintings. The temple stores his painted traditional sliding doors. Unfortunately these national treasures are not open to public viewing.

• Take Keihan Kyoto bus route 34 or 59 to Obata bashi (おばた橋). The temple is about a 3 minute walk from the bus stop.
