Places You Cannot Leave Your Bicycle　自転車を置いてはいけないところ

For safety reasons, there are areas where it is illegal to park your bicycle. Please see the maps below for details. There are other areas where bicycle parking is prohibited that are not listed below. Please check for a sign when you park your bicycle somewhere. These areas will be labelled as 放置禁止区域  hōchi kinshi kuiki or there will be a sign that says "No Bicycle Parking" (駐輪禁止 chūrin kinshi).

Please park your bicycle at one of the city operated bicycle parking lots listed below, or one of the privaTely managed bicycle parking lots. See here for bicycle parking.

安全のため、自転車を置いてはいけないところがあります。「放置禁止区域」といいます。下の図を見てください。しかし、下の図のほかに「放置禁止区域」があります。自転車を止めるとき、「放置禁止区域」または「駐輪禁止」の看板がないか確認してください。

自転車は市が営業している預かり所（自転車など駐車所）に預けてください（下にリストがあります。）民間の預かり所もあります。詳しくは自転車を置いてもいいところ

If you leave your bicycle in an area marked as a no parking zone, it may be removed and impounded (the lock will be cut). See here for how to get your bicycle back.

放置禁止区域に置いた自転車は引き取ります。（くさりを切る場合もあります）。自転車を預かる決まった場所に持っていきます。これは撤去（てっきょ）といいます。自転車を返す方法はこちら。

Retrieving an Impounded Bicycle　自転車が引き取ってしまった（撤去した）とき

If your bicycle has been impounded, you need to visit the administration room (管理室　kanri shitsu) inside the JR Umahori Bicycle Parking Lot (see map below) during business hours (10時00分-19時00分).

• You need to bring your bicycle key, your inkan (personal seal), and proof of your address and identity.
• You will be charged 2,000 yen per bicycle to cover removal and storage costs.
• Bicycles will only be kept for 3 months. Unclaimed bicycles will be disposed of after 3 months.

自転車を放置禁止区域に置くと、保管場所に持って行きます。これは撤去（てっきょ）と言います。JR馬堀駅前にある自転車など駐車場内の管理室で返す手続きをしてください。（下に地図があります。）受付時間は10時00分~19時00分です。

• 持っていく物：自転車の鍵、印鑑、住所と名前の証明書（免許証やパスポートなど）
• 撤去と保管の費用がかかります。1台2000円を払ってください。
• 自転車を3ヶ月預かります。3ヶ月を過ぎた自転車は捨てます。

Bicycle Parking　自転車を置いてもいいところ

Kameoka City operates 6 different parking lots for bicycles and motorbikes (125ccs or less). There are other privaTely owned bicycle parking lots in Kameoka, but the ones listed below are only those that are managed by Kameoka City.

• These parking lots are only for bicycles and motorbikes (125ccs or less)
• Registration is required. You will need to bring your inkan (personal seal) and money to pay the fee.
• Fees apply. Monthly passes are available for persons who will be using the parking lot on a regular basis. Please contact the individual parking facilities for more information.

*There is a student discount. You will need to show your Student ID or other proof of your student status.

*If applying for exemption from fees, you will need to bring your Physical Disability Recordbook (身体障害者手帳　shintai shōgaisha techō).

亀岡市が営業している自転車の預かり所（自転車など駐車場）は6か所あります。このところでは、自転車や原動機付自転車（125cc以下）を置くことができます。他には民間の預かり所もあります。

• 自転車や原動機付自転車(125cc以下）を置くことができます。
• 置く前に申し込みが必要です。印鑑と利用料が必要です。
• 一時使用と定期使用があります。詳しいことは、自分が使う自転車など駐車場に聞いてください。

※学生のための割引があります。申込のとき、学生証を持っていってください。

※減免（げんめん）の申し込みをする場合、身体障害者手帳（しんたいしょうがいしゃてちょう）などを持っていってください。

Bicycle Safety and Rules　自転車に乗るときの規則

Kyoto Prefecture has bicycle riding laws to prevent bicycle related accidents. Please follow the rules listed below when riding your bicycle. Failure to follow these rules can result in monetary fines or jail time.

自転車の事故は危ないです。自転車に乗るときは、次の規則を守ってください。守らないときは、厳しい罰則があります。（罰金など）

Obey Traffic Signals　信号を守ってください

Bicycles are expected to follow all traffic signals, just like a car. This includes traffic lights and crosswalk signals.

• Failure to obey traffic signals can result in jail time of up to 3 months or fines of up to 50,000 yen.

信号が赤のときは、止まってください。歩く人・自転車の人のための信号があったら、その信号を守ってください。

• 罰則：3か月以下の懲役（刑務所に入ります。）または、5万円以下の罰金を払います。

Obey Stop Signs　「とまれ」という一時停止の標識を守ってください

Stop signs in Japan are an upside down red triangles with the word　止まれ (tomare) printed in white letters. Be sure to stop in front of the white line painted on the street.

• Failure to stop at a stop sign can result in jail time of up to 3 months or fines of up to 50,000 yen.

一時停止の標識は赤い三角の形をしています。中に白い字で「止まれ」が書いてあります。この標識がある交差点では、止まってください。路面にある停止線の前で止まらなければいけません。

• 罰則：3ヶ月以下の懲役（刑務所に入ります）。または、5万円以下の罰金を払います。

Do Not Ride Side by Side　ほかの自転車と並んで走らないでください

Do not ride side by side with another bicycle. Please ride in a line.

• Riding side by side with another bicycle can result in fines of up to 20,000 yen.

ほかの自転車と並んで走ってはいけません。

• 罰則：2万円以下の罰金を払います。

Ride on the Left Side of the Street　道路の左側を走ってください

Do not ride against traffic. Bicycles should ride on the far left side of the street.

• Riding your bicycle on the right side of the street can result in jail time of up to 3 months or fines of up to 50,000 yen.

車と同じように道路の左側を走ってください。

• 罰則：3ヶ月以下の懲役（刑務所に入ります）。または、5万円以下の罰金を払います。

Use a Bicycle Headlight　夜はライトをつけてください

Riding at night without a bicycle headlight is very dangerous for yourself and others. Please make sure your light is working and that you have a reflector or light of some kind on the back of your bicycle.

• Riding at night without a bicycle headlight can result in a fine of up to 50,000 yen.

夜は暗いですから、自転車にライトをつけてください。また、自転車の後ろに、ライト、または光るものをつけてください。

• 罰則：5万円以下の罰金を払います。

Do Not Drink and Ride　お酒を飲んで、自転車に乗ってはいけません

It is illegal to ride your bicycle after consuming even one alcoholic beverage.

• If you drink and ride, you can face up to 5 years in prison or fines of up to 1,000,000 yen.

お酒を少しだけでも飲んだら、自転車に乗ってはいけません。

• 罰則：5年以下の懲役（刑務所に入ります）。または、100万円以下の罰金を払います。

Do Not Suddenly Change Direction　急に方向を変えてはいけません。

Recklessly changing directions, making a sharp turn, or suddenly changing paths is dangerous for you and for others. Please be aware of your surroundings before turning.

• If you recklessly change your direction, make a turn or change paths, you can face fines of up to 50,000 yen.

急に方向を変えることは危ないです。急に曲がることは危ないです。注意してください。

• 罰則：5万円以下の罰金を払います。

Do Not Use an Umbrella While Riding a Bike　傘をさして、自転車に乗ってはいけません

It is illegal to ride a bicycle while holding an umbrella in your hand. It can block your vision or cause you to lose your balance. If you are going to use an umbrella when riding a bicycle, it should be attached to the bicycle and not held in your hand.

• If you ride a bicycle while holding an umbrella, you can face fines of up to 50,000 yen.

自転車に乗っているとき、傘を手に持つことが危ないです。傘をさして、前がよく見えない場合があります。また、バランスを崩すときもあります。傘を自転車に取り付けてください。

• 罰則：5万円以下の罰金を払います。

※Using an umbrella while riding a bicycle in strong wind or rain is illegal even if you are not holding it in your hand. In severe weather conditions, using an umbrella while riding a bicycle can result in loss of visibility or balance and can cause and accident.

※強い風や大雨のとき、自転車に取り付けても傘をさして自転車に乗ることが危ないです。バランスを崩すかもしれません。また、前がよく見えない場合もあります。大変危険ですから、やめてください。

Only One Person to a Bicycle　自転車に2人で乗ってはいけません

Two persons are not allowed to ride one bicycle

• If two persons ride one bicycle, it is a finable offense of up to 20,000 yen.

2人で自転車1つを乗ってはいけません。

• 罰則：2万円以下の罰金を払います。

However, it is acceptable for two persons to ride a bicycle under the following conditions:

• A person 16 years of age or older riding with a child under 6 years of age. The child must be seated in a special child seat or strapped to the rider's body.
• A person 16 years of age or older is riding with 2 small children on a special bicycle equipped with 2 separate child seats.
• A person 16 years of age or older is riding with 2 small children on a special bicycle equipped with 2 separate child seats. One child is in a seat and the other is strapped to the rider's back.

ただし、次の場合は2人で乗ってもいいです。

• 16歳以上の人が、6歳までの子ども1人を子供用の座席に乗せている場合。または、子どもを背負ってひもでしっかり縛っている場合。
• 16歳以上の人が、子ども2人を、子どもが2人乗れる自転車の子ども用の座席に乗せている場合。
• 16歳以上の人が、子ども1人を、子どもが2人乗れる自転車の子ども用の座席に乗せて、もう1人の子どもを背負ってひもでしっかり縛っている場合。

Do Not Ride on Sidewalks Unless Marked as Bicycle Lanes「自転車および歩行者専用」の標識がない歩道を通ってはいけません

Do not ride on sidewalks unless they are marked as "bicycle lanes." Bicycle lanes will be marked by a round blue sign with a picture of a pedestrian and a bicycle in white. Below, there will be a sign that says something like「自転車および歩行者専用」"jitensha oyobi hokōsha senyō".

• Riding a bicycle on an unmarked sidewalk can result in imprisonment for up to 3 months or fines up to 50,000 yen.

歩道と車道が別の道路では、歩道を通ってはいけません。車道の左側を通ってください。「自転車および歩行者専用」の標識があるときは歩道を通ってもいいです。下のイラストをみてください。

• 罰則：3ヶ月以下の懲役（刑務所に入ります）。または、5万円以下の罰金を払います。

※Riding a bicycle on an unmarked sidewalk is permitted under the following circumstances only:

• The rider is a child 12 years of age or younger, a senior citizen aged 70 or older, or a person with a disability.
• The state of traffic requires the rider to ride on the sidewalk for safety reasons.

When riding on an unmarked sidwalk, you should ride on the side nearest the street and travel at a slow pace. Cyclists should take care when passing pedestrians and come to a stop before going around them.

If there is a bike lane painted on the sidewalk, cyclists should use this lane. However, if there are no pedestrians, cyclists should use their best judgment but can travel at a normal, but safe, speed.

※歩道を通ることができるとき：

• 12歳以下の子どもや70歳以上の高齢者、体の不自由な人が乗っているとき。
• 車道と交通の状態で、車道を通ることが危ないとき。

歩道を通るとき

歩道の真ん中から車道の方をゆっくり通ります。自転車が歩く人のじゃまになるとき、止まって待ちます。

自転車が通るところの指定があるときは、指定のところをゆっくり通ります。しかし、歩く人がいないときは、安全な速さで通ってもいいです。
